How It All Began

Here's another picture of my '61 Chevy before I began dismantling the body.

Obviously, based on this picture and the picture from my previous post, it is evident that the pickup suffers from some pretty serious rust issues, as do a lot of other vehicles that have been driven in Nebraska for years on end.  I decided, for whatever reason, that I would start my project by sanding down the hood though.  I suppose I based my decision mainly on the amount of fading the paint on the hood had suffered.  Regardless, I initially spent several hours with a hand block sander, taking all the paint off the top of the hood.  (I had very limited resources at the time, since I was still in high school.)  Anyway, below are several pictures I took after I sanded the hood down to bare metal and put a coat of primer on. (I started using a different type of primer part way through because I ran out of what I started with.)

My First Post

This is my 1961 Chevy pickup as it existed in the summer of 1998.  My dad purchased the pickup from my uncle shortly before this picture was taken, and we used it on our farm as a work truck for a while.  Eventually, I began dismantling it though because it has always been my dream to restore the pickup to its original condition.

Through this blog, I hope to be able to chronicle its metamorphosis from an old, rusty farm truck to a clean, restored daily driver.  As time goes on, I may even have other projects to track as well, but this old pickup will serve as my starting point.
